About E. Michael Hoffman, PC
Strategic Real Estate & Land Use Counsel for Colorado Developers and Associations
Real estate projects succeed or fail on details.
For more than 30 years, I have advised developers, brokers, condominium associations, and financial institutions across Colorado on complex real property matters. From land acquisition and zoning approvals to HOA governance and redevelopment strategy, my focus is always the same: protect the investment and move the project forward efficiently.
EMH Law is not a general practice firm.
My practice is focused exclusively on real estate, HOA, and land use law for sophisticated clients who need clarity, precision, and decisive legal strategy.
Before becoming an attorney, I spent ten years in the banking and financial industry. That experience continues to shape how I approach real estate matters today. I understand how lenders evaluate risk, how projects are financed, and how delays affect capital and timelines.
After earning my MBA from the University of Colorado, I went on to receive my J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law and established my real estate law practice in Aspen. I later expanded into Montrose to better serve clients throughout Colorado’s Western Slope.
For more than three decades, I have represented developers, brokers, associations, and financial institutions in complex real property matters involving:
Land use and zoning compliance
Development and redevelopment projects
Secured transactions and lender documentation
Condominium and homeowners association governance
Real estate contract disputes and earnest money conflicts
Easements, access disputes, and boundary issues
Structuring entities for development projects
My practice is limited to real property matters. I do not handle landlord-tenant disputes, commercial leasing, or owner claims against HOAs. This focus allows me to provide deep subject-matter expertise where it matters most.
Who I Work With

Real Estate Developers
I represent large and mid-scale developers navigating acquisitions, entitlements, zoning approvals, redevelopment strategy, and project structuring. My role is to help you move efficiently from concept to completion while minimizing regulatory risk.

Brokers & Financial Institutions
I work with brokers representing development clients, as well as bank executives and loan officers involved in secured transactions. With a background in banking and finance, I understand how deals are structured and how risk is evaluated.

HOA & Condominium Boards
I advise sophisticated boards of directors on governance, document amendments, compliance issues, restructuring outdated associations, and dispute resolution. My focus is on clarity, enforceability, and long-term operational stability.

How I Work
As a solo practitioner, I serve as the single point of contact on every matter.
When you work with me, you work directly with your attorney from the first consultation through final resolution. There are no internal handoffs, no layers of communication, and no disconnect between strategy and execution.
My process is straightforward:
Step 1:
We will start with an introductory consultation so I can understand your matter, your objectives, and the practical realities surrounding your situation.
Step 2:
We will formalize the engagement and review your documents carefully to ensure I have a complete understanding of the legal and factual framework involved.
Step 3:
I will analyze the legal issues and outline a clear strategic course of action, identifying risks, opportunities, and the most efficient path forward.
Step 4:
We will implement that strategy decisively, whether through negotiation, document preparation, filings, or direct representation.
My focus is always on protecting your investment while minimizing unnecessary delay and exposure.
